Finally another step in the right direction! Clean Water Act enforcement becoming a trend? January 19, 2011

Hopefully one can infer, that by taking such an action against perhaps the largest proposed mountain top removal site in West Virginia, the EPA is going to actionably enforce the regulations put forth by the Clean Water Act.  This could lead to coal companies actually being held responsible for the devastation caused by such practices.  In addition, this enforcement could prevent such devastation from occuring altogether.

 

A win for environmentalists! EPA revokes hilltop mining permit in West Virginia January 17, 2011

A “major victory” was won on Thursday when the EPA revoked Archer Coal’s license for hill top mining.  This previously issued license was revoked due to devastating environmental implications that included the destruction of water quality and wildlife a well as the surrounding Appalachian communities.  The EPA cited the regulations put forth by the Clean Water Act to enforce the revocation of Archer Coal’s license at their proposed Spruce No. 1 mine project, a 2,200 acre area, in Logan County, WV.
